LaVeda C. Showalter, 79, of Hutchinson, passed away January 7, 2022, at her home. She was born February 22, 1942, in Cookson, OK, the daughter of Ted and Christine (Sellers) Barnes.
LaVeda grew up around Tahlequah, attended White Oak Elementary School in Qualls and Tahlequah High School. In 1959, her family moved to Ashland, where she graduated from high school. LaVeda then graduated from Salt City Business College. She worked for a short time at Borton, Inc. before working with her husband, Larry, in his business, Showalter Construction, for over 20 years.
LaVeda was a member of Medora Community Bible Church, where she enjoyed working in various ministries – funeral meals, newsletters, shut-in visitation, and more. She dearly loved her kids and grandkids and spent as much time as possible with them.
On September 30, 1961, LaVeda married Larry R. Showalter, in South Hutchinson. They shared 60 years of marriage before his death on December 18, 2021.
Survivors include: her sons, Troy Showalter (Mary Beth) of Topeka, Joe Showalter (Erin) of Haven; grandchildren, Brent, Riley, and Shelby Showalter of Topeka, Eli and Addison Showalter of Haven; brothers, Joe, Darrell, Billy, and Coy Barnes, all of Tahlequah, OK; sister, Flo Myers (Bill) of Hutchinson; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Tommy Showalter; brothers, Thelbert, Pete, and Teddy Barnes; and sister, Freeda Barnes.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for both LaVeda and Larry will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Elliott Chapel. Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Monday at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Missions Revival, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
